I doubt WAR had anything to do with this trade. Having a veteran backstop on the bench is valuable in the playoffs. His bat isn’t too shabby for a catcher.

Not quite. If he’s claimed on waivers a team takes over his contract. It’s only another $1M in Lucroy’s case, but more than the minimum.

Cubs get him for the MLB minimum for the final two months and with Contrearas on the IR - they can use him.

we get zip for him but will pay most of his contract over the final two months of the season.

oh well, add him to the list of FA who we ended up paying to play for other teams,.
