I wonder if we tried to move Lucroy at deadline time?  No takers I take it -- and now they can get him for the MLB minimum for the rest of the season - KC may pick him up.

My understanding is they talked to a few teams about Lucroy but then when it came time to make a deal, no one was interested.

At least trade him for cash. Who cares

but now you get nothing lol

When every team in contention's back up catcher is better than he is and no team out of it is even willing to give up the cash....     Seriously, check out the catchers on contenders, it's nutty how many good hitting catchers there are right now.

Anyone actually mad about this probably needs to be reminded of their anger when they heard the Angels off-season catching move was Lucroy in the first place...

Not mad, just puzzled.  Why didnt we trade him for international money or something.

they should have an mlb gm forum:

Oh come on, there'd be at least a few replies. One from the Houston GM simply typing "lol" and then the Dodgers GM saying "Oh yes gimme dat package exactly for Bellinger and Buehler haha NERD!"

What sort of teams would need him?   Contenders?  Outside of Oakland there really aren't any that really need a C, even a back up catcher and in Oakland's case they have Murphy in AAA.

Check out MLBs contender's catchers

NYY -- Gary Sanchez 110 OPS+, Romine 79
BOS -- Christian Vazquez 103 OPS+, Leon 49
T.B. --  Travis D'Arnaud 135 OPS+, Zunnino 49  CS% 39%
MIN -- Mitch Garver 156 OPS+, Castro 113
CLE -- Roberto Perez 107 OPS+, Plawecki 61
HOU -- Robinson Chirinos 112 OPS+ Traded for Maldonado

LAD - Will Smith 224 OPS+, Martin 75.   They recently moved Barnes to down to make room for Smith
SF -- Buster Posey and Steven Vogt 137 OPS+
ATL -- Brian McCaan 104 OPS+, Tyler Flowers 90
PHI -- JT Realmuto 99 OPS+ Knapp 49
WASH -- Kurt Suzuki 96 OPS+ Yan Gomez 37% CS
STL -- Yadier Molina 75 OPS+ 35% CS, Weiters 105 OPS+
CHC - Wilson Contreras 130 OPS+, Caratini 109 OPS+
MIL - Yasmani Grandal 122 OPS+, Pina 85 OPS+ 33% CS

Lucroy -- 81 OPS+, 26% CS.

So, unless you can think of some rebuilding team that has use of a catcher with an expiring contract ....  who would want him?

MLB Network had Brad Ausmus on earlier today. He talked about how it was tough to tell a player that he had been DFA'd, especially one who was as well liked in the clubhouse as Lucroy was. He also talked about the emotional time that the team has had since the death of Tyler Skaggs.

When they finished the interview, the hosts brought up something that I hadn't considered during the tough spell that the Angels have had over the past week. This team may be emotionally spent, with everything that they have gone through. Not saying that it will stay that way for the rest of the season, but it has been a rough year for the players.

Joe Carter was a piece of shit playing for 6 teams.

Roberto Alomar and his 7 teams show how awful he was.

I don’t know, some geniuses on the board hold that against players like it shows they’re bad people. Seen it said about cespedes and segura

Grandal decided to be the people's hero remember.

He claimed he could have taken one of several deals for multiple years but he didn't want to hurt other players future earning potential so he took the one year deal at 18 mil which also guarantees he can't be offered a QO this year.

No ulterior motives at all -- just a hero.

he is hero, and deserves.

So was it that they didn’t want to come here or that Eppler got outplayed by acting too early?

The assumptions go both ways.

hard as it is to believe, not every player wants to come to LA.

and as IP mentioned a few pages back, there was a lot of uncertainty about trout's future. I don't imagine too many free agents of quality would have been interested in coming here only to see the best player leave shortly.

The Angels organization is a complete sh*t show from top to bottom.  Clueless and arrogant owner, equally clueless GM and a manager that literally no one else wanted or even had minimal interest in.  What a travesty that Trout is stuck in this mess.  Arte could have saved a bunch of money picking up a coach from a High School baseball coach job fair and still had an unimpressive .500 record at this point.   Wow, what a continuing disappointment and waste of talent/payroll...

This is especially true for a catcher-- give me a solid defender that can call a good game any day. Outside of the truly elite offensive catchers, that's by far their most important role. Plus, there is some chance that Stassi is merely a slight negative on offense, too - he had a .710 OPS last year, which would place him in the low-end starter range for catchers.

What is overlooked is that Stassi's defense & framing will certainly help any pitcher on this staff do better.

I know that was an argument for Mathis, but Mathis was utterly pathetic at the plate. Stassi has shown an ability to hit Major League pitching in the recent past.
