Let the Panarin bidding begin.  As for the Ducks.  It's a one game playoff that'll net in a #22 pick, or between a #28-31 pick.  If we end up with the 28-31, I think it's a must we unload the pick to get rid of Kesler and Perry's contracts.

Well F*ck.  There goes our 20ish pick and is now no less than 28.  I still say trade it and get rid of Kesler and Perry's contracts.

reports i've seen from hockey writers on twitter show considerable concern that this might be it for kessler, fwiw.

he was a nasty player in vancouver, tough as nails but could also score. he was fun and a pain to watch. i wish him well in his recovery.

The real question is does Murray realize we're just a good team now - middle of the road, maybe slightly better. Kesler washed up, Perry a third liner. We need a top of the line FA.

Is Murray going to get something done or sit on his hands and wait for the bad contracts to run out?

So my wild trade porn.

First round pick #28+ to Ottawa to take on Kesler and Perry's contracts.  Ottawa is not going to sign any big FA's any time soon.  They are in full rebuild mode.  So taking on 3 LTIR of Kesler which means it would only take up their offseason cap space, and 4 years of Perry's buyout contract which is $2 million a season except for year 2 when it's $6 million for a first round pick should be a very doable situation.  Bonus would be if Murray can get Tierney in the trade.  (24 YO, 1 year to RFA, only $2.937 million, Center so should do well with Silfverberg on line #2)

Second Round pick (I believe #40) to Nashville for Subban + $2 million + third round pick but will probably be their 4th round pick (3 years, $9 million per so that would drop it to $7 million)  (Nashville is desperate to shed payroll, and Subban's name has come up in the rumors quite a bit.  Also Nashville does not have a Second round pick, and at #40, that is a pretty high valuable pick.)

It's not a long contract, 3 years.  The extra cash drops it to $7 million so more than movable if it doesn't work out.  31 points this season, he's more of a 40ish point scorer.  But he's a big body, right hand shot, that would complement Fowler's left hand shot, and you can't really say he's not a first line dman.  And he's still only 29, so those 3 years should be productive.

Overall if that porn comes true.  For the Ducks, we get a more than competant complement to Fowler on the #1 defensive pairing.  We get a legit #2 line center if we get Tierney.  We still have the #9 pick, although we won't pick again till probably round #4.  We shed $15.5 million - $7 Subban - $3 Tierney.  So still a net of $5.5 million off the books.  But IMO, we fill the holes we need to fill for next season.

I don't know. That sounds a little too energetic for Bob. And, without a single dumpster dive in your plan, I'm going to have to give you a big, "Nice try, but..."

The 'but' being, you know Bob. There's got to be an AHL guy in there or... someone who was a high draft pick but didn't pan out or...  once was good but is coming off an injury. If we had gone to the playoffs, you could have added any player that has the one attribute that Bob feels was the reason we got knocked out. But alas, Bob gets a break this year from having to remake the team with those guys.

Yeah, I know no dumpster dives.  But the kids really showed a lot last season.  Steel, Mahura, Jones, Sherwood, Terry.  Even Ludenstrom.  Got a lot to pick from.  And hopefully with Eakins as the head coach, that's the direction Bob goes.

And in other Ducks news.  Well, sort of more like Draft Porn.

Entry Draft Options: Cole Caufield

We kind of got the short end all around on how the draft order worked out. I hope we get lucky.

If the refs didn't screw us, probably pick 22.

I hope we get lucky too and use that pick to get rid of Perry and Kesler's contracts.

I wouldn't count on it being Eakins. First, Murray could have already given it to him if that's the plan. I think he's down the list a bit and Murray wants to see the response of a couple other guys to the position. Eakins looks like the safe pick that you hold in your pocket in case the guy(s) you want doesn't work out. Second, I think loyalty is out the window with this choice. Murray f'ed up with bringing Randy back. No SCF in, what is it, 11-12 years. The guy who said Bruce understood his termination because he's a hockey guy, must be feeling the heat to succeed. I don't see any favors coming here.

I still think it's Eakins.  They haven't announced it IMO because the Gulls are still playing.  Hopefully 6 more wins.

NHL Rumors: Phil Kessel, Jason Zucker, and a Pittsburgh Penguins Trade Bait List

Quote

It seems inevitable that Zucker will be moved, and his 10-team no-trade clause doesn’t kick in until July 1st.

Sources say the among the interested teams are the Vancouver Canucks, Arizona Coyotes, Anaheim Ducks, and Calgary Flames.

Might be a good compliment to Silfverberg on the second line?

And BTW.  Zucker was born in Newport Beach.  So Ducks are probably not on the no trade list.
