IGNORED

No one would recognize Mike Trout...

I absolutely don't give a crap what other people think but it is clear that the Los Angeles Angels have an image problem.

There is no respect given them, either before or after the Trout signing.  People know absolutely nothing about this team, or its players, or who even the manager is.

They are ignored, or treated with almost a disdain, by the rest of the country.

Arte has done a piss-poor job marketing this team.  What's Arte's background?

It’s nothing to do with Arte.  The team has been bad despite having the best player.  The team has signed several big shitty contracts.  And, the other team in the market is in a kind of golden era.  It is what is.  The Angels don’t get any respect until they win consistently year over year.  That’s how it works.

For now the bullshit is just something we have to hear.

Winning would change that.  From 2002-2009 the Angels went to the playoffs 6 times which included 3 trips to the LCS and the WS win.  From 2010-2018 the Angels went to the post season once and got swept.  West coast teams are already at a disadvantage vs the east coast teams which get a lot more press even when some of those teams aren't doing much to deserve it.  For west coast teams on a national level marketing only goes so far.

Think about this for a moment.

Your life is that of a superstar athlete, you're now rolling in more cash than anyone in baseball, you have a place in Newport Beach and can walk around the shores, grab a slice of pizza, maybe buy a new shirt and nobody recognizes you or hounds you for an autograph on your time off.

That's life perfected.

Marketwatch is fake news.

Major League Baseball doesn’t market its individual players as much as leagues like the NBA and NFL, so a lot of people might not have heard of Mike Trout. But he’s been arguably the best player in baseball for over five years, and now he’s the highest-paid athlete in the country.
