THE GAMES: The Angels beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 in Tempe and tied the San Francisco Giants 5-5 in Scottsdale on Friday afternoon. In the game in Scottsdale, the teams started the ninth with a runner at second base, using a rule that’s been implemented in the minor leagues. “It’s fine in spring training,” Manager Brad Ausmus said. “I don’t expect it’s going to happen anytime soon in a major league regular-season game.”

PITCHING REPORT: In Tempe, right-hander Cody Allen started a bullpen game and pitched two scoreless innings. Ausmus said they wanted Allen to throw 35 pitches, but he only needed 25 to get through two innings. Allen has allowed two runs in seven innings this spring. … Right-handers Ty Buttrey and Luis Garcia each pitched scoreless innings. … In Scottsdale, left-hander Dillon Peters gave up five runs in four innings. Peters is in the running for a spot in the Angels starting rotation because Andrew Heaney could start the season on the injured list. … Right-hander Noé Ramírez threw two scoreless innings, with two strikeouts. Ramírez had allowed eight runs in his first four innings. The Cal State Fullerton product is fighting for a spot in the bullpen, and he’s out of options this spring. … Left-hander Jared Walsh, a two-way player, pitched a scoreless inning. He has not allowed a run in four of his five outings.

HITTING REPORT: In Tempe, Albert Pujols hit a two-run homer, his second homer of the spring. Pujols is 11 for 23 this spring. “He has barreled the ball up quite a bit in spring training,” Ausmus said. “Hopefully he’ll keep that going forward and roll right into the season.” … Kole Calhoun singled and walked three times. He is 10 for 30 with six walks this spring. … Matt Thaiss had another single, improving to 12 for 30 this spring. … In Scottsdale, Kevan Smith hit his first homer of the spring, a two-run shot. … David Fletcher had two hits and he scored two runs.

UP NEXT: Angels (RHP Trevor Cahill) vs. Indians (RHP Mike Clevinger), Saturday, 1 p.m., Tempe Diablo Stadium
