Recommended Posts

THE GAME: The Angels lost 9-3 to the San Diego Padres on Wednesday at Tempe Diablo Stadium, in their first night game of the spring. The Angels are 10-9-2 this spring.

PITCHING REPORT: Right-hander Felix Peña gave up two runs in 2-2/3 innings, on 65 pitches. Peña whipped through the top of the Padres order in the first inning, but he allowed three hits, walked two and hit one in the second inning. He said he just needs more work pitching out of the stretch. Peña, who is in the running for a rotation spot, has allowed four earned runs in 11-2/3 innings this spring. … Right-hander John Curtiss gave up a pair of two-run homers in 1-1/3 innings. Curtiss had allowed just one earned run in his first 5-2/3 innings this spring. … Right-hander Daniel Hudson, who had allowed one run in his first four innings, gave up a three-run homer. … Right-hander Justin Anderson pitched two scoreless innings on 29 pitches. Anderson was rarely used for more than one inning, and never for six outs, last year. He has allowed one run in six innings this spring.

HITTING REPORT: Jonathan Lucroy had a 10-pitch at-bat in the first inning. He reached on an infield single, driving in the first run of the game. He also drove a ball to the center field fence, robbed of an extra-base hit by Wil Myers. … Albert Pujols had a single in three at-bats. Pujols is 10 for 22 (.455) this spring. … José Rojas drove in two runs with a single. Rojas, a Southern California product who has been frequently brought up from minor league camp, is 10 for 23 with eight RBIs.

DEFENSE REPORT: Left fielder Peter Bourjos dropped a fly ball after a long run, for a two-base error. … Pujols played six innings at first base, the most he has played in his three games in the field this spring.
