He may not have said anything.  He may just be talking out of his ass.

Or maybe Trout told him he’s out

Who knows.  It’s all bullshit.

how pissed would Trout be at Harper if Trout told him in confidence that he's out.  And why would Harper even need to press the issue if he knew Trout already decided?

the only reason Harper is doing what he's doing is that he didn't get the sense from Trout that he's on his way.

Boras is a master politician.  Everything Harper is saying is being fed to him from Boras camp.

I think Harper is doing this because he knows that Philly fans wanted Trout instead of him and he's trying to temper their fear/anger that they may not be able to afford Trout now.

I get why he's doing it, but it's still an ahole thing to do.

Why play it out in the media? He could just text him.

if texting him mattered, then he'd be doing that.

the media is his only platform.  he's campaigning.

handshake between Harper and the Phills to recruit Trout.   Players get a slap on the wrist for tampering.  Teams get serious fines and penalties.

The Phillies want to make it clear that signing Bryce Harper does not impact whether they would go after Trout but they can't come out and say that themselves so they task Bryce with it.

They know Mike is likely in discussions to stay with the Halos and they want to make it clear that his hometown team would have strong interest should he become a free agent.

Angels could be casually pointing out that one of his future options just got their superstar.

Another play here is that the Phills are done spending for now because they don't have a ton of interest in Keuchel or Kimbrel so to distract fans from the idea of shelling out more stupid money, they are implying that they're saving it for Trout.

Or merely that Harper is trying ti ingratiate himself with the fans.  'Don't turn on me or else I'm going to tell my friend who happens to be the best player in baseball not to come here'.

Basically that this guy has embraced this team and wants to do whatever he can to help it win a championship.

The line has already been drawn.

Rule 3(k) on page 43 of the latest Rulebook governs tampering, and says this:

TAMPERING. To preserve discipline and competition, and to prevent the enticement of players, coaches, managers and umpires, there shall be no negotiations or dealings respecting employment, either present or prospective, between any player, coach or manager and any Major or Minor League Club other than the Club with which the player is under contract, or acceptance of terms, or by which the player is reserved or which has the player on its Negotiation List, or between any umpire and any baseball employer other than the baseball employer with which the umpire is under contract, or acceptance of terms, unless the Club or baseball employer with which the person is connected shall have, in writing, expressly authorized such negotiations or dealings prior to their commencement.

It's silly to see it as tampering really. As if they aren't already talking to each other over and phone and whatnot about future plans.

It's silly to say it isn't tampering. Harper now represents the Philadelphia organization, no less than the GM when it comes to this issue. He is directly violating MLB rules and doing it repeatedly.

It directly violates the Angels rights to have private negotiations with Trout without interference from outside sources offering another deal. MLB should have moved on this without a grievance filed by the Angels but forced their hand by inaction.

BOSTON (AP) — Major League Baseball is investigating whether new Philadelphia slugger Bryce Harper committed a tampering violation when he lobbied for Mike Trout, who isn’t a free agent for two more seasons, to join the Phillies.

Speaking to a group of Boston business executives on Wednesday, commissioner Rob Manfred said he doesn’t want players recruiting other players, a practice that has been winked at in the NBA. Manfred said he didn’t want to see the same thing happen in baseball.

“Given our rules, players recruiting other players who are still under contract or under reserve to another club is a rule violation,” he said at the Boston College Chief Executives Club. “So, obviously not anxious to see that.”

The Angels will be just as good as the Phillies in 2020. Literally the only reason for him to go there is if he truly wants to just play for his childhood team. That’s literally the only reason. It’s not to play with douchebag Harper. If Harper was still with the Nats Trout wouldn’t go there just to play with Harper.

yes, it is.

Judge received a reprimand from MLB for telling Machado he'd look good in pinstripes.

Judge did not receive a reprimand. The MLB issued a statement:

“We have been in contact with the Yankees. They communicated to us that Mr. Judge’s off the cuff comments were not appropriate and not authorized by the club,” the league said in its statement. “They will speak to him to make sure that this does not happen again.”

In other words, nothing happened.

So would that make you feel better?
