I actually would be pretty happy with that list, might even buy a season ticket package. . .especially if the rumor is true that Bryce Harper is changing his name to Michael Hermosillo.

that's only 24 players listed.

I think they'll start the year with 8 guys in the pen.

they're definitely going to need a 5th starter a few times in the first month.  They've got 30 games in the first 32 days.  So my guess is that they'll keep Pena, Trop or Peters on the major league roster for awhile in that they'll definitely need a long man to chip in on that prior to SP being totally ramped up.

Agree with most of what you had there @Troll Daddy, just a couple of minor differences.

Think Hermosillo makes the Opening Day Roster only because picking up Bourjos messes with the 40 Man.

At least two players will go to the 60 day DL (Ramirez and Middleton)  This will open up two spots.

I could almost see Ohtani opening on the 60 day DL too....

Herm will be better served in Triple A getting regular AB's.  With Trout (140 GP), Upton (145 GP) and Calhoun (137 GP)...That leaves about 64 games across three positions to be filled....I cant see Herm playing one or twice a week.....Not when you can run out PB for those few games.

Good point on the 60 day.  I would prefer Bourjos as the 4th OF.

I would imagine there would also be an opportunity for either player to function in a platoon with Kole.  He had 37 starts vs. lefties last year.  My guess is that he gets very few in 2019.  Doesn't make it more likely Herm wins the job but who knows.

Justin Bour also has a .639 career ops vs. lefties.  Another thing they could do early in the season is put Albert at 1b and let one of Upton or Trout DH during those games.  It could also open up roster time for Ward at 1b.

You sure? :D

Yes, forgot him, how did that happen?

Remove Ward and add AP.

The guys in bold have to actually win jobs. The other guys just have to be healthy and not terrible.

According to the article ... Fletcher and Ward will be competing for 2B. Is Cozart a lock for 3B?

Cozart will play 2B or 3B.

Fletcher, Ward and Rengifo are all fighting for the other spot. Obviously Rengifo would play 2B and Ward would play 3B and I think if it’s Fletcher they could go either way.

I'm pretty certain Rengifo will be in AAA to prove his move up the ladder of three levels was for real. Ward may also be in AAA learning 3rd base and honing his hitting so his return to the majors isn't as flawed as his first cup of coffee.
