Jo Adell, Brandon Marsh, Griffin Canning announced as non-roster invitees

Have they ever been invited before?

Canning and Adell were drafted in 2017, so there’s only been one ST since they’ve been a part of the majors. Both were presumably in minor league camp, neither had been in the system long.

Marsh was injured for 2016, the year he was drafted in 2016. I doubt he was part of major league camp in 2017 or 2018.

Not invited, but Adell went 0-2 with a walk and a strikeout this past spring, playing one game.

Marsh went 1-3 in two games with a triple.

Oh happy day!

But seriously, this is fantastic news on so many levels....

1. Miguel Almonte has a great deal of upside as a hard throwing multi-inning reliever. It's good to see the Angels were able to bringing him back. These sort of arrangements typically come with a handshake agreement that while he's ticketed for AAA, the team's intention is to promote him at some point this year, either due to his performance, or simply to allow him to showcase his talent for other teams interested. Major league teams honor these, though much of it remains unspoken.

2. Alex Meyer, if he's healthy enough is another arm to keep an eye on. I highly doubt he got the handshake that Almonte had, but it is good to see him returning to the team that has showed so much interest in him as a pitcher and has patiently stuck with him through the excruciatingly slow rehab process. If he makes good on his talent, it bodes well for the Angels.

3. The future of this team will be on full showcase this Spring. Adell, Canning, Marsh, Jones, Thaiss, Rengifo, Suarez.

4. Reports of Walsh's development on the mound are promising. He's supposedly back hitting 93-94 consistently, and there's reason to believe that number could jump up another couple of ticks with further development. And at the plate, he has a great eye and a ton of power. Because of the construct of this roster, his bat would likely not get him onto the team. Even if Pujols does retire, he'd still have to outperform Thaiss, perhaps Upton or whatever free agent they may sign. It's possible, but not probable. It would be his arm that gets him onto the team. If he can get lefties out, the Angels use him liberally for late inning at bats, because he has that high reward at the plate.

5. Good to see Rhoades get a chance.

Marsh did get some time during Spring Traning with the big guys last year

The main thing I’m rooting for is that Adell goes beast mode and puts Calhoun on the bench .

It wont happen, but it would be awesome.

I’m a huge Joe Adell fan and looking forward to watching him play for many years to come ... but for right now I couldn’t disagree with you more.

I’m rooting for Calhoun to have his best season in a Angels uniform!

The difference between you and I is that I possess a realistic understanding of the situation with Calhoun.

It would take an absolutely remarkable bounce back for this guy to be an average OF major league bat.  I’m sorry.  I don’t see it.  It would be nice if I was wrong.  But I doubt it.  He looked like shit.

I don't agree.  I think there's a decent chance he's ends up an avg player next year when you take his defense into account.

Guy got hot for like 6 weeks and was other wise complete garbage.  I don't get you guys.  There’s no secret.  We all saw what we saw.  I’m not trying to be dick.  Calhoun has been terrible for multiple seasons now.

If you guys want to pretend he’ll be fine, by all means.  I hope you’re right.

he was an average player in 2017.  Where are you getting 'terrible for multiple seasons'?

From his emotions and his expectations, not from reality.

No, from watching the games.  You guys are trying to paint this picture that doesn’t exist.  Calhoun has for the last two season either been red hot or a complete a zero.  You and doc have watched the games.  You know exactly how it’s gone with Calhoun.

You’re regurgitating numbers that make it look better then it is.
