Cody Allen is officially a member of the Angels, after the club formally announced the completion of a one-year deal with the former Cleveland Indians closer on Sunday.

Allen, whose deal was first reported on Thursday, is guaranteed $8.5 million, with the potential to earn another $2 million in incentives, based on games finished.

Allen, 30, is likely to get the first crack at the Angels closer job, as he looks to bounce back from his worst season in 2018. Allen posted a 4.70 ERA, after logging ERA’s of 2.99 or better each of the previous four seasons. He has 147 saves in the past five years.

General manager Billy Eppler is expected to address the Allen signing on Monday.

In order to create a spot on the 40-man roster, the Angels designed right-hander Miguel Almonte for assignment on Sunday. Almonte pitched seven innings for the Angels last season, allowing eight runs.
