just don't do math dude.  it's not your strong suit.

For the benefit of those who didnt get the post...
Payroll has gone up under Arte from about 105 M to 165ish, or 60 M
60M is 6% of 1 B.
You guys are so fast to jump people shit you dont even bother to try to understand thier posts anymore.
Jesus christ why bother asking the Facking question if you had no intent on listening to anyones point of view?

I know exactly what you did.  the fact that you think the information you're supplying is relevant to anything or even remotely logical makes my math brain hurt.

but it's not $60M total over the 15 years. I would guess it's more like $500M+

can you see why people are asking Facking questions?

and some actual numbers

payroll was 83m in 2003 and peaked at 188m in 2018 when we had a shot at the playoffs.   It dipped to 176m last year because we moved some money at the deadline.  That's an average annual increase of about 5.6%

revenue went from 127m in 2003 to 334m in 2017 which is an annual increase of about 6.7%

so payroll has increased appropriately relative to revenue when taking a cumulative price change of 33% into account from 2003 to 2017.  ie, adding about 2% inflation per year which means payroll + inflation has actually been at a higher rate of increase than revenue.

now, of course, the team has gone up in value from 180m that he bought it to about 1.8 bil.  An average annual rate of return of about 16%.  But to realize any of that, Arte would have to borrow against the equity of the franchise value and then pay it back with interest.

Anyone who thinks that Arte isn't making or hasn't made a shit ton of money off the Angels would be crazy.  But it's not out of proportion to any other owner in the industry.  Yes, I believe he could be spending more on payroll

According to MLBTR, the Angels are at least 40 million under the tax.  There are still top free agents out there though so I guess we just have to remain optimistic that Arte wakes up and realizes he has Mike Trout on his team and it's okay to spend more money. What would the tax even be if he does go over? He could sign MM and Keuchel and still be right at or a little over the tax. It's very difficult to have faith in an owner that has a 40 million dollar cushion to work with and decides to not even get close to it all while having the best player in baseball on his team. It goes up to 208 million in 2020 and 210 million in 2021. It's going to be very telling if Arte still is nowhere near those numbers in the coming years.
