Rogan’s podcast with them would reach a much larger audience than some standard cable news debate will. Rogan will ask tougher questions too

Rogan has spoken at length on complex topics with some serious heavy hitters. Edward Snowden, Elon Musk, Steven Pinker, Sam Harris, etc..plus plenty of politically minded people as well.

Honestly? Maher probably could in the traditional sense. The guy is a loony lefty, but so are most other debate moderators.

Rogan often at least tries to be impartial.

The point of having Rogan host the debate was about format. That they would have 3 or more hours and would be allowed to expand on topics in a way that can’t happen in 30 second sound bites. It sounds good in theory but would probably just turn into an opportunity for Trump to run roughshod over a novice moderator. A better idea would be separate sessions with each that more closely follow the format he already uses
