Would you be happy with Ottavino and Marwin Gonzalez?

No. Zero interest in Marwin Gonzalez. Take his big year out of the picture and he’s basically David Fletcher. Tack on the Boras rep and fact any team could use him, and he’s gonna get too big of a contract. Would rather focus on Lowrie or Moustakas, and if they wind up too expensive, I’d even prefer Josh Harrison, Brian Dozier, Logan Forsythe, or Asdrubal Cabrera over Marwin.

I’m down with Ottavino though. He makes sense the more I think about it.

Marwin makes sense if you are moving Flether or Cozart.

If someone is getting dealt to SF for pitching, then yes, I could see Marwin being a better fit, but still think there are many others available in FA that would offer more upside and less commitment.

Ottavino's gonna want a lot of money for a 33-year-old reliever coming off 1 great season that followed 1 mediocre season that followed 2 injury-marred seasons. Do I want him in a vacuum? Yeah. Do I want him for a multi-year, 8-figure AAV that will tighten money up from other players over the next couple of seasons? Not really.

i was high on Gonzalez at the start of the hot stove due to his flexibility, we could play nearly every day at various spot and provide insurance against a Calhoun relapse, even platoon at 1B...   But the Bour signing took that away for me and lessened his value.  The only way i do that now is if we signed him to replace Kole who got traded but even then there are better pure OF options out there i think.  In short, i think that ship has sailed.

I agree with this except one point. Ottavino's 2017 season wasn't mediocre. A WHIP north of 1.6 is horrible for a reliever. Color me unenthusiastic about this guy.
