How to make a PB&J sandwich.

My wife used to assign that as an English writing assignment. Create a recipe for a peanut butter sandwich. Then she would read them aloud and follow the directions. 

Place peanut butter on bread.

So she would put the jar of peanut butter on the loaf of bread. 

Open the jar, scoop out the peanut butter and spread it on a slice of bread.

She took a hamer to the lid until it broke open, stuck her fingers inside and smeared it on the bread. 

The kids got a laugh out of all the ways they botched the directions on how to make a peanut butter sandwich but their second drafts were much closer to right than if she just gave them an assignment then graded the mistakes.

I was going to comment on the idiocy of her students, but that's a great exercise.
