Do you think the new free agent compensation rules have a bearing on the decision as well. If the Angels got the Dodgers first round pick plus a sandwich, I think this would have been a definite win win situation.

Personally I think that the "worst case" happened, the Angels didn't make the playoffs and Grienke did not sign. I can't comment now on being a bad trade because I didn't have a opinion at the time.

I think a lot of Angels fans wouldn't be nearly as upset with the trade as they are now if the Angels were able to get two high draft  picks out of the trade.  I mean if you're going to give up that much for 2 months of someone, that's the srot of gamble I'd expect to be fine in the end.  But new CBA, new rules, Angels don't get a thing.  Not a huge fan of the new CBA with the exception of putting caps on International Spending and Draft Slots. 

 

I think it failed in a lot of areas that needed to be addressed.
