Toronto and 1 year/3.5 million plus incentives that could add another 1 million.  Sounds very close to what he would have gotten in arbitration with the Angels.

I don't understand why you let Shoemaker go and then you go ahead and sign Harvey for more money.  If Shoe sucked in 2019, you non-tender.  I'd rather have Shoe than Harvey.

Because the upside of Harvey, who is regaining his velocity, was too much for Eppler to pass up on.  Plus if Harvey pitches well and the Angels suck you can trade him for more prospects.

Not a good career move. Pitching in those AL East parks is not going to go well for him.

The same can be said about Shoemaker to a lesser degree.  For the past 3 seasons, Shoemaker has been the better pitcher in less starts based on WAR.  I'll take recent production over "upside" any day, especially if it's almost 2x cheaper.

Ok, but Eppler chose to go with Harvey, probably based on his velocity and Doug White (the new pitching coach) and the work he did with pitchers once they got to Houston.

I liked the Cahill signing more than Harvey's.  Apparently, 4M can get you a season of Shoemaker.

I understand the reasoning, but I don't understand the logic.  Eppler non-tendered fairly decent and cheapish players to save money to go after better players.  However, the players he did sign aren't that much better than the ones he let go in recent seasons and they were much more expensive!  Yes, they may have shown better talent, but that was some years ago.  I do hope I'm wrong about the Harvey signing and he does show up this season.

Shoemaker will always be a favorite of mine due to the thread discussing whether his beard was a result of the maternal or the paternal side of his family, which was finally resolved when his father weighed in.  Good luck Matt.

I don't understand why they didn't do both to be honest.

As for Shoe -- Toronto may not be the best place for him given his HR tendencies but, he's across Lake Michigan from home -- so, I'm sure his family is pretty stoked.

i would have liked to have had shoe for an entire season to see if he was completely recovered from his arm injuries.

Seems like a good deal for both parties.

Blue Jay's get a decent starting pitching option for relatively cheap - if healthy - and Shoe gets a chance to re-establish himself on a team that will have room in it's rotation.

As with most of the Angels SP I don't have a lot of confidence in Shoemaker.

I wish him the best in Toronto.

I wonder if discussing the pen was brought up with shoe and he made it clear he was not open to that.  I like shoe a lot,  but counting on him to be a healthy SP wasn't really an option.

I am happy for him and will be rooting for him.

I totally support the Angels decision not to sign him though.

Shoe will face Judgement Day at least 5 times in 2019. Plus JD. Plus Betts. Plus Giancarlo. Good luck with that.
