OC Register: Angels re-acquire Parker Bridwell on waivers from Yankees

Recommended Posts

Parker Bridwell, one of the Angels’ breakthrough performers in 2017, is back in the organization after he was briefly lost on waivers to the New York Yankees.

The Angels designated Bridwell for assignment in November, and he was claimed by the Yankees. The Yankees designated him this month, and on Friday he was awarded to the Angels on waivers.

The Angels’ 40-man roster is now full, which means they will need to make another move when Matt Harvey’s deal is official.

Bridwell, 27, was 10-3 with a 3.64 ERA for the Angels in 2017, after they acquired him from the Baltimore Orioles for cash considerations. In 2018, he missed much of the season with an elbow injury, which eventually required a minor cleanup surgery.

Bridwell now goes onto an Angels starting pitcher depth chart that lacks certainty or star power, but is deep with pitchers who have had at least brief periods of success in the majors.

The top five figure to be Tyler Skaggs, Andrew Heaney, Harvey, Trevor Cahill and Jaime Barria. Bridwell joins the next group, which also includes Felix Peña, Nick Tropeano, Dillon Peters and prospects Jose Suarez and Griffin Canning. JC Ramirez is expected back around midseason, after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
