I like the Cahill/Harvey signings for 1 reason

They're 1 year contracts.  The SP FA market next year is pretty solid. Rather than the Angels clearing a path for young arms, I think they're looking at 2020 and ensuring they have the ability to add guys--

MadBum, Sale,  Cole, Gibson, Odorizzi, Wheeler and some good veterans as well--Verlander, Hamels. Nova, Porcello, Hill.

Sale, Cole, Wheeler and Verlander will likely be extended.

Thing I like most about this is it shows Eppler isn't going to stress out and panic sign guys.   He has his master plan, obviously he saw some guys as worthy of longer commitments and made the offers -- when those guys went elsewhere he seems to have shifted gears towards one year deals he can walk away from and possibly benefit if they do well regardless of how the team does.   If they tank but get another Buttrey and Sandoval -- it was worth the 20 mil outlay.

The anti-J. Pierpont Reagins (Mr. Pop-Up Wells) and anti-Dumbpoto (Hackilton)

It's refreshing to see a GM not panic.   Haven't had one of those since Stoneman from 2000-2007.

As an aside, i think its also possible the club wasn't convinced this years crop of free agent SP was all that, certainly not worth it, with an eye on next years crop which looks like it could be stronger.
The 20 class could potentially include names like Cole, Sale, Baumgardner, Verlander, Wheeler, Porcello, Hamels... To me this year is more about the bats than the arms as none of them were guarantees.

Before last season, I was worried we were going to lose Richards because he might've been the #1 option with a good year/ return to 2016 form.

It was him and Keuchel, and Corbin, as the #1 guys before he got hurt. This year's class is not that good.

And I think their offense needs more work. Bour is a nice add. I want a Catcher now who can hit and field.

I think we should wait and see what the new Angel coaching staff can do with these signings.  Dave Duncan would routinely take discarded pitchers and remake them into quality starters and relievers.

I will wait to pass judgement.

And, I am not afraid of Lou!!

maybe.
