I guess they should release Andrelton Simmons too. He's 3 for 19.

And sign Brian Goodwin (.300) and Cam Bedrosian (0.00 ERA) to extensions.

HEY NOW..........

Do you think Goodwin would be interested?

I never suggested that would happen.

This is what I said.

The Angels are not keeping a player who continues to perform this poorly after a month just because they are paying him 2.5 million.  They are keeping such a player if they do have an alternative.

And I said... the club is not going to drop Bour... or even a month of games.

maybe sooner.

These one-year guys are just temps to fill gaps until we can harvest the farm, right?

thaiss is the obvious replacement here. Not a chance he cant give you the level of production Bour is giving at a fraction of the cost. Eppler needed to take a shot on a high upside guy, but he seems like the kind of guy that can punish bad pitches but not hit good pitching.

It'll be interesting to see which direction this goes once the calendar flips to May.  The only thing we know for sure is that Ohtani is the DH.  Bour has one month to prove he's the 1B and Pujols has one month to prove he's still the 1B.

At any rate, in three months Thaiss or Walsh will be the starting 1B.

Thaiss may be ready, but I doubt he's here before September if everyone stays healthy.

Bour also has like three walks in 21 plate appearances. Which means a .190 OBP, next to his .056 Average. If he say goes 4-4 with a 2b, a HR and a walk, in Thursday's game against Edison Volquez, (he's likely not starting tonight) He'd be 5-22, and right at last seasons BA, OBP, and SLG.

It's not like they've been slumping for weeks. They've had a bad road trip. There are still 157 games left.

Way too early to base anything on anything, so I wont even bother with performance so far. But the team will eventually be forced into promoting Thaiss or Walsh. It's just kind of the way it works, prospects develop, veterans age and are replaced. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Once Thaiss or Walsh are ready to outperform Bour and/or Pujols to the degree that money can't factor in anymore, they will be promoted. It probably won't be long. If Bour and Pujols were going to hit this year, it would be September, but because I'm predicting July or August, I guess I'm saying they aren't going to be hitting much come June or July.

Here's the thing: another few games of putrid performance by Bour means that he'll have already dug himself into a fairly deep hole.  The longer his suckage continues the more heroic his turnaround will have to be to make his stats palatable.

And, his performance is magnified by the other 2/3 of the lineup sucking and it being the start of the season.  A five-game slump in the middle of the season is expected.  A five-game slump to start the season with a new time looks much worse.

that's a pretty sage answer, glen. when did you get so wise?

Look what you guys have done.

You've pushed our voice of reason into sarcasm.

Knock it off already.

Imagine if they lose tonight.

their second and third best hitters are out, almost the entire lineup is slumping and they are facing an offense that is on fire with an opposing pitcher that is better than ours.  pretty good chance.

people need to have a glass of wine or a beer and watch a movie or something.
