Retiring a number...

The Twins aren't wasting any time retiring the number of Joe Mauer:

Which makes me wonder... when, if ever will the Angels retire Tim Salmon's #15.  No Angels player has worn the number since he retired - why not make it official.  I'd like to see this happen sooner rather than later.

Yes, I know his career numbers aren't HOF worthy by any means, but he is still deserving, IMO.

I expect at some point, 27, 17, 14, 5 and 2 will all be retired.

I think most don't realize that despite the non-winning seasons, depending on extensions, the current Angels team has more high-end talent on it than any of the past.  They aren't a better team, but they do have some better players.

Trout/Guerrero (27), Ohtani/Erstad (17), Scioscia (14), Pujols (5), Simmons (2).  Shoot, they might even consider 36.

Scioscia  - Yes.  Pujols - Doubtful.  Trout - definitely and Vlady too.  Simmons - We'll see.  Erstad - Doubt it (Angels HOF - possibly). Ohtani - We'll see.

You have to include #16 for Garrett Anderson, IMO.  I love Weaver - but I can't see them retiring his number.  Angels HOF - definitely.

i find it ridiculous that 15 and 16 have yet to be retired by the halos. what are they waiting for?!?

Yep, two longest term stars this team has ever had, to this point.   Salmon from 1993-2006, and GA from 1995-2008

Downing is closest to them (1978-1990), although he wore both 5 and 9 as a Halos player.

I'd take those numbers over Harold freakin' Baines.

I agree that Mathis' number should be enshrined in Angels history.

LOL - why in the F would Pujols have his number retired?

O playoff wins with him on the team.

10 years as an Angel, he led the team in zero batting categories.         *checks baseball reference*

Take that back.  He led the league twice in one category.  In GDP

27 was retired in 2018. Downing arguably did more in Number 5 than Pujols has as an Angel.
