How about Jeff McNeil?

Right now with the acquisition of Cano, the Mets have no place to put him since they have power hitting prospects D. Smith (lefty) and Peter Alonso (righty) at 1B.

The guy proved he could smash minor league pitching last year to the tune of  .342/.411/.617 with 19 HR, then he went on to hit well in 63 games for the Mets, slashing .329/.381/.471 with 3 HR, 7 SB. McNeil bats left and can also play 3B (the Mets have Frazier there).

I wonder if the Mets would take RF Kole Calhoun and say a David Fletcher for him? They currently do not have a RF because they traded Jay Bruce away to the M's.

Thoughts?

i like those numbers and i'd definitely try to get him, but mcneil can play infield and outfield. he's suited to be a starter or a super duper utility man. those qualities and his hitting numbers are not only why the angels should look to acquire him, but also the very same reasons why the mets will hold on to him.

also, cano is going to play second and they can just plug mcneil into RF, which makes calhoun and fletcher both unappealing and unnecessary.

they're gonna put McNeil at 3b I think.

they've got Conforto, Nimmo and Cespedes for the OF.  I think Frazier or one of their rookies will play 1b.

Yeah I just wonder if getting them a quality RF defender and one who can hit nearly 20 HR a season, + a young infielder who can play all over the place in return. Hell, I'd even consider Calhoun and J. Jones for McNeil.

Cespedes is not due back until sometime in the summer. Their rooks will play 1B, but Frazier is slated to play 3B right now.

They have McNeil targeted as their super U guy for now....

He'll be 27 at the beginning of the season.  His year last year is so far afield from the rest of his minor league career in terms of his power numbers that it seems suspicious. (EDIT: he also never homered in his 3 seasons at Long Beach State)

True, although until the past season, Blair Field (LB State's home stadium) made even Angel Stadium look like Coors Canaveral.   Even Evan Longoria and Troy Tulowitzki didn't hit many HRs at Blair Field.
