My cousin lives in Anchorage,  no major damage at her house but she says gas lines and roads are in rough shape all over. The local high school was being set up as a first responders outpost but a huge gas leak was discovered so that had to be evacuated quickly.

Crazy stuff.  Hopefully no one was seriously hurt but given how some of the roads look and the magnitude not sure how likely that is.

Lived in Anchorage for 5 years and still have friends around that area (Kenai, Girdwood, Homer)

VERY earthquake aware up there with strict building codes...still amazing that there have been no deaths reported. Downtown hotels, offices, etc.. still standing though not undamaged..still.. amazing being that close to the epicenter.

The 64 "Good Friday" quake near Anchorage nearly wiped out Crescent City Ca...not far from where I live now.

We have a large tsunami warning system here because it's always a threat along this coast. This quake was shallow and not on a subduction plate, or this whole northwest coast would have been scrambling to higher ground.

Maybe a year ago, we got an alert on the countywide broadcast. (Each city has its own channels, but one channel is countywide to broadcast BOLOs and pursuits.

Anyway, out of nowhere they broadcast a tsunami warning, reference an earthquake in Russia. 

Of course none of us knew what the hell to do with that info. But blew my mind thinking about the scale of that...tsunami waves, hitting socal, from russia.

8 or 10 years ago a tsunami wave from Chile hit socal...would have been almost unnoticeable on the open shoreline, but in Dana Point Harbor we watched it come in and go back out again over the period of 45 mins - an hour.   Pretty bizarre.

I remember watching that down there too.  It was a trip.
