‘SpongeBob Squarepants’ Creator Stephen Hillenburg Dies at 57

SpongeBob one of the few shows my 3 yr old and I can watch together and both enjoy. Hillenburg was a local guy who ended up creating one of Viacom's most successful franchises. RIP

Huge Spongebob fan here...read this news yesterday with dismay and sadness. Never met Steve, but we both went to Humboldt State and both worked for a time at The Ocean Institute in  Dana Point.

57 is way too young.

Only SpongeBob could have brought in the crusty hardened prison guard from Shawshank and give him the voice of Eugene Krabs, and have it be a complete success.

R.I.P. Stephen, many a cartoon was watched with my daughter when she was young.

I used to watch SpongeBob with my grandson when he was about two. I found it strangely engaging. That is a difficult gap to bridge, to entertain both young children and adults at the same time.
