Realmuto Trade Idea

Would you guys support a trade of Andrelton Simmons, Brandon Marsh and Jahmai Jones to the Marlins for J.T. Realmuto? Hopefully the inclusion of Simmons can keep Adell and Canning out of the deal. Is this enough to get it done? How about also signing Manny Machado to play shortstop in this scenario?

Come on, at least post well thought out trade scenarios that make sense... how does Andrelton Simmons make any sense whatsoever for a Marlins team that has stripped the roster down?

Whether the Angels get Realmuto or not,  I know I am rooting for somebody to get him in a deal that sucks for the Marlins.  I want Derek Jeter to be the moron that traded away three future MVPs and and ended up with garbage.

Kind of new to baseball. I know the rules but still trying to figure out the value of certain guys and positions of teams. All I really knew about the Angels were that the Pujols contract is bad, and Trout is the best. I figured the Marlins would want Simmons to trade him immediately for more prospects.

Welcome to the board, to the OP.

I can break down the trade this way.

Simba is a one in a generation shortstop, who also has become a very solid hitter (better than Ozzie Smith ever was).   He is also a leader in the INF.

Marsh has excellent OF promise, although likely two years away.   Halos do need LHH's in their lineup, ultimately.

Jones has excellent 2B promise/SBs promise, and is probably 1 to 1.5 seasons away.  

That is waaay too much to give up for a two years controlled catcher, who has struggled somewhat at home (albeit a pitchers' park). 

Simba is waaay too much to give up, alone, for Realmuto.

@Angel Oracle did summarize the salient points well, so I won't repeat it. I will point out that SS is considered the most valuable defensive position in baseball and trading two years of Simmons for two years of Realmuto who plays catcher (probably considered the 2nd most valuable defensive position in baseball) does not make sense when you consider how truly elite Andrelton is defensively. Realmuto does have better offensive numbers but it does not justify the move. Ultimately you will be left with a hole at SS which you have to fill (Cozart could do that however) but no one you can readily acquire will even come close to the production Simmons provides. You could make a case that Andrelton and JT have similar value overall but when you throw in Marsh and Jones you are just giving away valuable farm assets in a lop-sided trade to the Marlins which is why you received some of the reactions you got above.

Trades have to benefit both sides whether in the short or long term (or both even) and this one would hurt us much more than help us.

I watch baseball on occasion and I don’t really follow contract situations that much so I was trying to learn values of players and after doing more research I admit I serverely screwed the trade proposal up. Now I realize the Angels have about 30mil in payroll and need to spend a reasonable amount on a catcher that can hit/field well. I have a list of other options. Ages are listed for 2019. Stats are career averages

Welington Castillo(32) 318 obp, 259 BA, 33% CS  Not sure if the White Sox want to trade him(not sure about prospect price) he makes 7.25-8 mil the next three years

Yasmani Grandal(30) 341 obp, 240 BA, 26% CS 9.9 mil/yr market value

Wilson Ramos(31) 317 obp, 273 BA, 32% CS 10.7 mil/yr market value

Alex Avila(32) 347 obp, 237 BA, 29% CS. Makes 4.25 mil in his walk year. Read he has an injury history and the Dbacks didn’t play him much last year. Perhaps he can be traded for cheap

Manny Pina has some good numbers but I doubt the Brewers trade him. Yan Gomes and Salvador Perez have already been discussed on AW I believe so I won’t mention them again.

Not really. I was raised to watch a lot of basketball and started getting into baseball recently because the concept of Ohtani a two way player seemed interesting.
