It happened to Mike Trout again.

Trout finished second in the American League MVP race when the results were announced on Thursday, marking the record fourth time he’s been the runner-up for the award. He’s won twice.

The Angels’ star finished a distant second to Boston Red Sox right fielder Mookie Betts, as expected. Betts received 28 of 30 first-place votes, with Trout collecting just one.

Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram cast the vote for Trout.

Boston’s J.D. Ramírez received the other first-place vote.

Trout has now tied teammate Albert Pujols, Stan Musial and Ted Williams, with four second-place finishes.

The worst finish in his seven full seasons was fourth in 2017.

Angels shortstop Andrelton Simmons also got MVP votes for the second straight year. Simmons finished 16th, earning two ninth-place votes and three 10th-place votes.

Last year Simmons finished eighth.

Milwaukee outfielder Christian Yelich (Westlake High) earned 29 of 30 first-place votes to win the NL MVP award.
