or how about Russel + Happ, and than release Russel......

May goal in this trade is to acquire Happ.

Pretty sure he means Ian Happ -- dude can play 2B, 3B and the OF.   But the real question for me is why would the Cubs move him.  Dude's young, can switch hit, and has upside still.

You're playing checkers and the Epstein is playing 8D chess. Sure, on the surface it seems like the Cubs could use a player like that, but you need to move to the next level. Who is the Cubs biggest competition to get to the World Series? It's the Dodgers. Who competes for market share with the Dodgers? It's the Angels. So if the Angels can get Happ it would obviously force the Dodgers to make a desperate counter move. This move will backfire, no doubt, and clear the way for the Cubs to win the pennant.

Well the cubs need to start reducing there payroll, they are at 167 mil heading into the year. 60+ mil on three guys, while guys like  Bryant, Baez and many more are entering Arb years and are getting expensive. Only contract that i see that's move able is Chatwood, at 2 yr 28 mil.

All the more reason why they would want to keep Happ....  He's cheap.  Teams typically trade bad contract for bad contract, or bad contract for low level prospects, but it's uncommon to see them throw in a quality player under club control as sweetener.

Zobrist is about the only contract I’d see working for both the Angels and Cubs. Had Darvish stayed healthy and only pitched MLB average, maybe they’d roll the dice there with some money eaten, but not after his health concerns.
