Is Eppler Stoneman 2.0?

Stoneman did accomplish a lot, and also essentially told that POS Tony Tavares where to stick it.

Best things to happen this millenium, other than the 2002-2009 success?    Dipoto bailing, Disney (and Tavares) leaving, and Eppler coming aboard

Stoney's refusal to give in to Tavares is really was what made it all work.  A lesser, weaker GM pusses out, falls in line and end up paying for it later.

I think, when time comes, Eppler will have no problem moving prospects. He spent too much time in the NYY org not to have recognized the value in making those moves.

But the farm is not deep enough now, nor are the Angels competitive enough to really necessitate that. If he winds up being here another 5+ years though, I think it's safe to say the farm will be at a place where he'll have the depth he needs to trade fairly frequently, especially if the team on the field is winning.

Arte long desired to have a Yankees West feel - but he only paid attention to the marquee FA part of that mantle. If Eppler gets the farm and intl presence rocking and rolling, keeps payroll flexible, you'll see them trade, sign, and develop just like NYY, STL, and currently, HOU. All orgs whom we've poached coaches, scouts, and execs from in recent years.

That interview where he basically says just that was great.  Flat out told MLB Network, "Im not getting those calls because teams know whats up".   BIlly Eppler has come a long long way in the interview game.

The thing I'm disappointed with in this interview is that he's not wearing a red polo shirt.  What's going on Billy?

We aren't remotely close to where we were in 2005 prospect wise...  There isn't 1/5th the depth, we don't have the volume of MLB ready talent.... It's just not the same.

This is exactly right. The system under Stoneman was like how our outfield is at every position. Adell, Marsh, DeVo, and Knowles for 3 outfield positions. So enough for a starting outfield and a back up. And only 2 of those guys are top 100 prospects. The old system had:

1B, Kotchman and Morales

2B, Kendrick and Callaspo

SS, Wood and Aybar

3B McPherson

C Mathis and Napoli
