Meanwhile, the pitching coach for the Texas Rangers Doug Brocail has done WONDERS for their starting staff.

Hell, even Jessie Facking Chavez is lighting it up there, in addition to Minor, Lynn, Jurado and Sampson.

I really liked Nagy.

I was, however, excited about White because I though he was bringing the type of philosophy that turned Cole into what he's become, got Verlander back on track, and basically turned Morton into a top of the rotation guy from being terrible.  Right now I see a lot that's just not working.  Don't get me wrong, I didn't expect him to turn Skaggs, Heaney and Pena into any of those guys.  I did think that they'd at least stay the same and not get worse.

I don't know who's to blame.  Eppler, White, Lucroy, the analytics team.  Whoever.  Whatever.  It's not working.

We lead all of baseball in hrs allowed on 0-2 counts and XBHs allowed when ahead in the count.

And unfortunately Doc, it seems to me that most of those 0-2 homeruns that are hit have been hit with 2 outs also.  We have to lead the league in hr’s allowed with 2 outs also.

What, more than anything, causes so many hard hit balls in 0-2 counts and with 2 outs?

Pitchers don’t have killer instinct?

Catchers don’t have killer instinct to call for put them away pitches?

Too much emphasis on spin rate and these pitchers are too inconsistent at it?

Or...like with Bud Black, does it take time to change the pitching culture?   It took Bud into his 3rd season to get good results.   Like the 2000 staff, this one either has very little prior true solid success at this level or is on the down side of their career.

That cries out for a Gerrit Cole.

Bump....

White doesn't appear to have any measurable positives at this point.

I am inclined to cut this experiment short. The consistancy of hitters converting a pitcher's count into a hit is not a coincidence.
