yanks bullpen is disgusting

Ottavino, Betances, Britton, Chapman....

Don't worry, bullpens are a crapshoot remember? All of those guys can easily put up eras of 5 and all the Angels guys can easily put up eras of 1. It will be interesting to see the cost to era ratio at the end of the year.

Eppler is a goddamn genius remember? He is the best GM ever in the history of GM's and no GM is ever better than him and he is a genius at finding the best Bullpen for the cheapest price possible.

Pay as cheap as you can get the cheapest guys for as cheap as you can because it's all a crapshoot and the bullpen is just 50/50 and Eppler is a genius to not spend an ungodly amount like 8 million a year. He knows what he's doing for just 500,000.

Remember, he is employed by a very very very very small Market team. No way can you be selling out that much money for a guy that pitches out of the bullpen.

I know you're being sarcastic here, but bullpens are typically a crap shoot. The difference with the Yankees is they are paying the guys who have been consistent over many years a lot of money. So in their specific case, it's not really a crap shoot.

Wait a second? Are you telling me they actually know what they are doing and are better at putting together a bullpen than the Angels are?

No he’s saying the Yankees are in a position to spend $40 million on their 4 guys in the pen.

Los Angeles Angels sign Adam Ottavino

Let's see. The Angels signed Matt Harvey and Trevor Cahill. They signed Jonathan Lucroy. They signed Justin Bour. If the Angels were conducting a 2015 simulation replay, you might want those. Alas, it's 2019, and that's not exactly a fearsome foursome.

Hey, it could work out. There's some minor upside to all four players. The Angels actually project to 84-78, which could put them in the thick of at least the wild-card race.

Good call

Must be nice having an owner that wants to win a championship.

I agree it must be nice having that much money.  The Yankees bring in almost twice as much revenue as the Angels, about $280 million more a year.  So it’s a bit easier to spend when you have a $280 million head start.

You can only get to that type of fandom and exposure by putting a winning product on the field.

the Yankees can afford to pay for their bullpen redundancy.

they're paying a considerable amount of money to get a slightly greater chance of success.

they're current team and window along with their funds make this a reasonable play for them.

but lets be clear.  They're paying 20+ mil this year and 66m over the next 3 years for a guy that's 33 and had a 5.00 era in 2017, and another guy that had an FIP of 4.22 last year and is also on the wrong side of 30.

and btw, if the Yankees are so willing to spend in order to win, how come they opted for DJ LeMahieu and Troy Tulowitzki over Manny Machado?

Yankees are close to trading Gray. The Athletics and Padres are involved, while the Reds do not appear to be, according to SNY.tv’s Andy Martino (Twitter link).

Heyman hears that the Giants have entered the picture (Twitter link). Contrary to Martino, he also suggests that the organizations previously rumored to have interest have dropped back — including the A’s and Pads as well as all of the other ballclubs listed below.
