Help me out here.

What has having the Angels and Disneyland exactly done for the city of Anaheim?

The city looks like the same middle class to lower middle class craphole that surrounding inland OC cities are.  Fullerton, Tustin, Buena Park, Fountain Valley, etc.

I've been to a couple of the Anaheim high schools - they certainly aren't pouring extra money into those.

So what exactly has the city gotten out of these two cash cows for the last 50 years?  I am genuinely curious.  Are sales taxes lower in Anaheim?

A ton of Jobs and money spent at Anaheim businesses thanks to them. Make no mistake they have been the most important thing in Anaheim's history. I wouldn't be surprised if they have been directly or indirectly responsible for the majority of business in Anaheim since Disneyland opened in the 1950's. I know for a fact that it was basically an agricultural city then Disneyland pretty much changed the landscape of the area. They both also helped bring the Ducks. I could go on and on but I've read research papers that say Disneyland is the single most important thing In Orange County's history. Whether you/I agree is a different story but it is an interesting read nonetheless.

I don't think anybody could argue that Disneyland isn't the most important thing in the history of Orange County. What I I'm trying to figure out is how Disneyland and the angels specifically help the city of Anaheim.

Stanton does not have a Disneyland type entity. Cypress does not have an angels type entity. Superficially, I see no difference between a Stanton , a Cypress, or an Anaheim.

Is the city of Anaheim, or their citizens better off for having these entities? Are there better parks, lower taxes? Do the Anaheim High School athletic teams play in a first class city funded football stadium, or basketball arena, or Aquatic Center?

I am wondering what tangible benefits the pro sports teams and Disneyland provide to the city or its citizens.

Ever seen the amount of cops in Anaheim?

My brother was a firefighter for the City of Anaheim -- back when the goggles that allowed firefighters to see people caught inside buildings  came into being they were massively expensive and most departments were able to afford one maybe two of them for the entire department.  The Anaheim FD had one in every engine  -- at the time they were the envy of pretty much every department in SoCal.  They remain one of the best equiped and trained departments in CA -- much of that due to the money brought into the city by Disneyland

Back in the late 80s, early 90s when Carl Karcher and the City of Anaheim teamed up to renovate some of the really bad neighborhoods they again tapped into monies brought into the city due to Disney etc etc.   They bought entire city blocks of apartments, gutted them all, put a police mini-hub in the center along with playgrounds and then gated the areas so as to keep non residents out... Crime dropped, vandalism dropped, and people who might otherwise stuggle found affordable housing almost entirely due to revenue streams cities like Stanton and Cypress lacked.

As far as trhe HS teams - Glover Stadium is the home field for a lot of the local HS teams but , Western HS and Savanah HS, and Katella HS were said to have been built with monies brought in by the Anaheim HS football program -- at one time the number ranked HS team in the nation (Mid 50s).

Inside Pitch summed up some of the Disneyland and other major employer / business benefits in Anaheim.

Disneyland has made Anaheim. For better  (mostly) and for worse (some bad stuff - mostly good).

Lot of Disney dollars flow through that city and get re-circulated (taxes, wages paid to employee who make retail purchases etc.)

Cypress, Stanton and those cities would love D-land in their city limits -- that plus a bunch of new car lots selling cars.

You lost him when you mentioned the fire department.  YK hates the fire department.

Just made some popcorn about to read how tight everyone’s sphincter is tonight.

i don't think you're going to get what you want because nobody really believes that arte is going to move the angels out of the 2nd biggest media marketplace in the usa. i don't care how sweet a stadium deal another city may offer. until we see some real changes to the story, that''s all it's going to be.

Las Vegas Angels...........wanna bet?

Over the weekend I was in Vegas. Heard rumors that  the city wants to level the Rio and Palms Casino’s and build a stadium for a major league team. Also heard that the A’s are interested in moving there.
