I love Carmel apples or at least the first initial bite. But it is a tiring piece of work to get through the entire apple on a stick and I never feel there is the right balance between shell and apple. 

Maybe if you use crab apples, cutting down the size of the apple to manageable size it would be better. Now if apple slices were used then it might make sense. The advantage of slices would be no core.
