Eppler needs to be extended.  No real questions here.  The previous GM"s (and Arte) has destroyed the farm and our international presence.  Billy has rebuilt that in a few short years.  What happened to the team this year, is not a reflection on the GM.  Injuries decimated us.

I love what Eppler has done thus far...I want to see how he leads this team in the next few years as well.

I would argue that even the best GM in the world, whoever you think that is, wouldn't have made the playoffs in the last 3 years with all the injuries we have went through and with the cap situation we have.

Eppler has done a lot of good for the organization in the short time he's been here, especially for the future of the organization. He's been a bright spot in the organization which hasn't had many bright spots in recent years.

What cap situation? We have one bad contract in Pujols the rest have been done by Eppler himself.

And of those contracts, which are really bad ones?    Calhoun only has one season remaining, as a bridge to Adell.   Cozart only has two seasons remaining.   Upton was up and down, but still put up an .800+ OPS.

They may have only won 74-80-80 games the past 3 seasons, but Eppler has laid the foundation which may need another season to really stabilize.   Still, they are positioned so that the right additions will not cost an arm and a leg, and possibly lead to post-season contention throughout 2019.

if only there was someone here who could find out, like if they went out to lunch with arte this week and could ask him then report back to the board, like usual...

When these GMs and players ask you to lunch, and you discuss what youre going to eat, do you ever reference the off topic recipe posts?

What's to say that wasn't the plan?

Personally, I kind of think the Angels have been intending to treat the last few seasons as a rebuild and any moves made under the guise of winning were simply fan service to keep casual folks interested. Eppler intended to build a strong farm, reverse the many organizational wrongs, and set this org up for long haul sustainability like he witnessed in NY.

Exactly. Its been a rebuild, with faces brought in to make the season seat people think it wasnt. Ie, were trying to win with trout and pujols.

Weve signed some lame asses for sure. But just about all were short term, affordable deals....with no draft picks....

I don’t care about the other half of that people are complaining that we have all theee bad contracts. We have 1 with Pujols. Stop making it more than it is. It’s just excuses.

3 years as a GM, with the expectation of rebuilding the major league club and the farm system, is not a long time. I think he's made good strides in getting this club where it needs to be. He should be extended and hopefully things continue in the right direction.

Not to mention the actual record of the MLB club in recent years reflects more on the previous GM than it does the current one.  Unless you have a Dodger type payroll where you can buy your way out of problems, there's really not much a GM can do when taking over a team with as many holes as this one had throughout the system.  The overall health of the organization is much greater now than it was when Eppler took over.  2020 and onward will be more of a reflection of the job he has done.

Absolutely - around the time DiPoto quit, looking ahead was a wasteland - there was *zero* international presence, little to no money to spend on FA's and internationals, and an empty farm - there was absolutely no reason to be optimistic long-term - there was no way to see how we could acquire the talent to compete.

We could enjoy watching Trout play - but I think many fans never really saw how bad it was - there was really no hope of fielding a playoff team in the foreseeable future.

He's progressed this team a lot since he came on, when it didn't seem he'd have the resources to do so.  And that's the thing - it's not just what he did - it's what he was able to do in an environment with so few resources to improve things.

Of course he deserves an extension - you can't fire a guy for not being a miracle worker.

The thing that kicks me in the, uh, "gut" was we interviewed Eppler but chose DiPoto.

all the time! for the record, even arte thought the "pressure cooker rice" recipe was idiotic.
