Dude has been nails in some of his starts, and "innings eater"-esque in others. What would it take to him to develop some consistency and pitch like he did today, all the time?

He's not nearly as inconsistent as Santana, who would go threw months of struggles. Heaney gets roughed up every now and then, but for the most part is good for a QS or better.

I really can't find much issue with a 3.98 ERA in 27 GS / 165 IP. That's a fantastic #4, and a solid #3 in a rotation. Unfortunately, we've relied on him to be the second-best SP all season.

Santana would also have entire seasons when he seemed to be off, usually every other year. I once jokingly suggested offering him a three-year contract covering years 1, 3 and 5.

The Angels play the White Sox caliber teams when he starts.

Heaney vs. .500+ WP%: 16 GS, 3.58 ERA, 98 IP, 83 H, 28 BB, 101 K

Heaney vs. less than .500 WP: 10 GS, 5.10 ERA, 60 IP, 65 H, 12 BB, 48 K

"Big Game" Heaney?

Exactly...dude just threw 6 IP 5 H 0 ER 1 BB 6 SO in Houston and has put up 19 IP 15 H 4 ER 2 BB 23 K in his last three starts, all on the road.
