If given at bats the rest of the way out.

Miguel Andujar who is the esteemed leader at this juncture is also the worst fielding infielder in baseball.

With Ohtani's success as a pitcher albeit just a taste, combined with his power, speed and OBP combo, he should be the unanimous victor even at this stage in the season.

Per baseball reference, in about 45 fewer games, Ohtani has a slightly higher overall WAR than Andujar...as a hitter (thanks mostly to Andujar's astonishingly low dWAR). That was before tonight, which will probably put a bit of daylight between them - again, just as hitters/fielders. Ohtani with pitching (even with his limited amount of pitching this year) it isn't exactly close here...

Are there any other solid rookies in baseball that we are missing here?

Crazy thing is how he's improving.

Earlier in the year, his home/away splits were far more favorable at home. I think it wasn't until his 9th or 10th HR that he hit one on the road.
Well, now...

Home (44 G/158 PA): .267/.323/.568/.891 with 20 XBH
Away (38 G /121 PA): .317/.425/.594/1.019 with 15 XBH

1st Half (45 G /157 PA): .283/.365/.522/.887 with 18 XBH
2nd Half (37 G/122 PA): .294/.369/.651/1.020 with 17 XBH ...and a lower BAbip (.339) than the first half.

Maybe the difference between inconsistent and consistent AB's?

Wendle is 28 though and coming into this season he already had over 100 at bats under his belt for his time with the A's.

Ichiro was 27 and had 4000 plate appearances under his belt in Japan. Obviously, wildly different levels of success, but some proof that age and some prior experience don't matter too much.

Wendle doesn't have a chance in hell with the players above him, but it's fair to say he should be among the Top 5.

JB Shuck finished 5th in voting at 26, two years after ~100 PA with Houston.
