Can anyone stop Miguel Cabrera from winning another Triple Crown?

My newest article with The Outside Corner.  I take an honest look at Cabrera's chances at winning a batting title, home run title and RBI title and who the greatest threats are in each category.  Check it out, it's already got Detroit-homers pissed off.

The fact is that Cabrera is genuinely the best player in baseball right now. That makes him the MVP in my opinion, regardless of whether or not he wins another Triple Crown. If anyone has the all-around raw talent to surpass him, it's Trout, but he's still got to make up some ground.

Correction ice, Miguel Cabrera is the best all-around HITTER in the game right now (and that point is very debatable, Trout hits for the same average, moves runners over more often, scores more runs, steals more bases and hits for similar power.  A stronger case could be made that Cabrera is second to Trout offensively).  As a player, Cabrera is somewhere between AWFUL and TERRIBLE defensively and is somewhere between turtle and snail as far as his ability to run goes. 

 

He's a pure offensive force.  Can't play the field worth a crap, can't run, all he can do is hit.  It's the MVP award, not MVH.  Cabrera's undoubtedly a Silver Slugger.  But as far as players go and overall game, Cabrera's not even Top 5.

Sadly though, as we saw last year, MVP is basically the most valuabe hitter award.  Voters don't seem to understand the concept behind a lot of defensive metrics, they just see lots of HR's and RBI's and get a stiffy.

If they can continue to play healthy, I think Mauer and Pedroia will challenge him for the batting title.

Cano might challenge him for RBI's, but MCab is probably the favorite there. 

A lot of sluggers ahead of him right now in HR's.

Since 17 other guys in the AL have as many or more HRs than him, yes. Some of them are flukes and others will get hurt and fall behind but it would be hard to finish on top of the pile. He'll almost certainly finish in the top 10 and maybe the top 5 but there can be only one.

Had that big trade happened for Cabrera we all know Howie Kendrick would have won multiple batting titles for some other team and Cabrera would have turned into an albatross

No.... Boy do I wish the Angels would have approved the Kendrick, Wood, Mathis and Adenhart deal to the Marlins for Cabrera.
