3-D Guns

Recommended Posts

@mtangelsfan thanks for starting this thread. It's forced me to look into this kind of stuff. Personally, I think it's just something to get the anti-gun crowd into a fit about. I think they'd need to ban 3D printing to prevent someone from making one. The metal gun in the article costs more than a custom made Jesse James firearm.

I know nothing about 3D printing. Isn't it rather expensive to buy a machine and print out the gun? I would imagine the market for this would be really small. Do the blueprints fall under the 1st amendment?

Printers are getting more and more affordable.  You could by a simple one for a few hundred.

The thing with these plastic guns are they are pretty much one or two shot max.  Again, you could make it out of stuff at Home Depot and achieve the same goals of single shot guns.  I know of people who were doing just this about 20-30 years ago.

This is just something the anti gun put out there to rile the stupid up.

I wonder if there are any stats on crimes committed with a 3D printed gun?

I am a bit bemused by this idea that the dissemination of the printing schematics will be in any way influenced by legislation.  How many years has everyone been using the internet again?

My experience has been that those who try to legislate the internet know damned little about it.
