The Red Sox have checked in on Angels relievers

According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, the Red Sox have "checked in" on Angels relievers.

Cotillo specifically mentioned Blake Parker and Justin Anderson as arms the Angels could move ahead of next week's trade deadline. Adding a late-inning difference-maker like Parker or Anderson would strengthen a Sox pen that already boasts the majors' sixth-lowest ERA (3.39).

Why would we want to trade Anderson? The guy is under control for years and has a lot of potential.

Because it is a bullpen arm and you might be able to get a nice return.  He very well could be this years version of Bridwell, a guy that comes out of nowhere, has some success and returns to obscurity next season.

Well don't we need good bullpen arms? it's literally one of our biggest areas of need.

And Bridwell and Anderson share basically zero qualities. Bridwell didn't strike out 11.3 per 9 with high 90s heat and a good slider. Bridwell was clearly smoke and mirrors.

I understand that they have different stuff.  But Anderson wasn't on any list of any kind, not even here where we tend to find everyone.

Red Sox system is terrible, but they do have some solid relief arms

Wow not a single dude in the top 100 here.

I guess they did have most of their guys graduate from the farm system and then dumped a few for Sale but I was surprised to see this

Up until this season, Anderson's K/9 was around 5 or 6. Off top of head, that's probably less than what Bridwell did in the minors.

Look at it this way, with the current market, if Anderson gets dealt, it'll certainly be worth it.

He was also mainly a starter. So he improved himself and his strikeout rate skyrocketed, and you guys want to get rid of him? When we're in desperate need of relief? wtf?

And relievers are overlooked all the time in a minor league system. That doesn't mean they aren't any good.

I would love nothing more that if we got a prospect so Jim Johnson could 'help' the red sox.

Game 7 of the WS, Red Sox and Braves are tied in the 15th inning. Jim Johnson is the Sox' last remaining reliever. He comes in, and promptly walks 5 straight batters to cost the Red Sox the title.

Parker and Kinsler for

Ty Buttrey and Durbin Feltman.

I don’t think we’re quite mature enough to have a player named “buttrey.” Plus, the constant nicknames and jokes would bring the server to its knees.

edit: look at Stradling’s joke. We’re not even mature enough to have a player named “Durbin .”
