I'm more intrigued on what this means going forward with the catching position rather than what minor return they'll be getting from this deal. Do the Angels pursue Grandal in FA or do they look go trade for Realmuto perhaps?

I'd give this Kruger kid a chance. A little pop, some speed...

Or they like Briceno

Patrick Sandoval, LHP – Like almost every pitching prospect in this system, Sandoval can really spin a breaking ball (two, actually) and his fastball plays best up at the letters. He has a high-effort delivery and below-average command of an average fastball, but both of his breaking balls are 55s. That will play in relief. Sandoval’s changeup and control both have a chance to mature in the 45/50 range, so he has a shot to grow into a more substantial big-league role than just a lefty relief piece, but that’s his most likely outcome. He signed for $900,000 as an 11th-rounder in 2016.

Odd that they do a "Top 27" prospects.  For what it's worth, Sandoval would have been 28th on the list, apparently.

EDIT: The Fangraphs equivalent in the Angels system would have been Jose Rodriguez:  https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=rodrig058jos

Good move to get a prospect and international $$ for Maldonado.  This will give us a chance to see how Briceno performs, which will give us a better idea if he's the possible solution moving forward.  Alternatively, Grandal is a free agent.  Considering we need some LH power in this lineup, he'd be a solid addition.

They don't specifically target a top 27.  They rank anyone who has a FV of 40 or higher.  So in their eyes, the Astros have 27 of them.  I think the Padres, for example, had 40+ players.
