Selling tickets.

Ohtani will be the DH against RHP until Sep 1 when he has TJ surgery. Then he'll hit all of 2019 and pitch in 2020.

...then blow out the arm again in mid-2020, have another surgery, then return in 2022.

Just let the guy hit and forget about the pitching. Let him have an actual career and enjoy good health.

I pulled the list of TJ surgery ever. It lists high school through MLB. Here's some stats:

4 of the last 6 TJs at MLB level have been Angels (haha)

1614 TJ surgeries total

Of those 1614, 2 players had 3 TJs (Jason Isringhausen and Jonny Venters)

Of those 1614, 95 players had 2 TJs

There have been 34 PRP inejctions to treat UCL since 2008

Of these 5 have been Angels, impressive since this list is for all of MLB, college, and minors (Shohei x 2, JC Ramirez, Garrett Richards, Andrew Heaney)

The only big names I see are Aaron Nola, Alex Cobb, Tanaka. Not sure if Nola and Cobb had TJ afterwards.

And maybe that's not what he wants.

Maybe the agreement between Arte/Eppler and Ohtani was that he be allowed to hit AND pitch and that is one of the reasons he chose the Angels to begin with.

Ohtani is going to be allowed to try to be both and elite pitcher and hitter because..

That's what Ohtani wants

Well, we'll see how many TJ's he has to endure before he reevaluates that dream.

I hope it's none or only one, but given the strange history of this team and its pitchers, it could be more.

Jesus dude, he’s not being forced to do both.  If he has to have one then it has virtually nothing to do with being an Angel.  If he needs to have a second one, he will probably opt to be a hitter only at that point.

#Angels GM Billy Eppler reiterated today that no doctor has presented TJ surgery even as an option for Shohei Ohtani at this point. They are following the lead of the doctors.

You guys, if there isn't a tear right now there isn't a tear. They're not going to do TJ surgery unless there is actually something to go in and fix. Maybe it really did heal. No doctor in their right mind is going to operate on something that they feel doesn't need to be operated on. Surgery is a last resort thing most times.

Regardless, it doesn't make any sense to do the surgery right this second. Let him DH for the rest of the year and then see where he's at in October. As has been said many times, he's going to miss 2019 if he gets the surgery now or in October

Multiple ones!

Start them when they're in Rookie League.

we can make TJ surgery as common as all those NFL linemen who wear knee braces once they start playing NCAA ball.

get 'er done, eppy.
