the Machado trade makes more sense when considering that. Dodgers know this year may be one of their best bets at the division before San Diego really starts to threaten. Colorado and Arizona are capable too.

I would LOVE to see the Padres rise up and build themselves into a powerhouse like the Astros.  Padres fans deserve that.  They've spent the vast majority of their existence in the basement of their division.  They've built this absolutely beautiful ball park and their fans have largely stuck by what has been a losing team with a smaller payroll in what should be a medium or larger sized market.

San Diego deserves a championship.

And I think they'll do it.  In 2020 and 2021 that team will be killer.

They have the deepest potential rotation in baseball with Luccesi, Lamet, Lauer, Quantrill, Gore, Baez, Morejan, Espinoza, Paddock, Allen and Nix.

And they'll finally have just enough offense to match it with Wil Myers, Francisco Mejia, Eric Hosmer, Fernando Tatis, Luis Urias, Manny Margot, Franchy Cordero, Hunter Renfroe and Travis Jankowski.  Plus you've gotta figure sooner or later they'll deal a couple of those pitching prospects for another big bat and when they're in striking distance, they'll finally spend a little money in free agency.

In retrospect, Eppler said it was a decision based on prioritizing the team’s needs.

“With the resources we had at our disposal we took the opportunity to shore up left field, second base and third base,” Eppler said, referring to the deals for Justin Upton, Ian Kinsler and Zack Cozart. “We looked into a lot of relievers this winter time. They seemed to be the area of the marketplace that was moving off the board pretty quickly. I will recognize the fact that there aren’t sure things on any side of the game, starting, relief or position player.

“When we were assessing our club and what we need to do, it was clear we needed some guys who could stand the dirt and play second and third and also play left field. Those opportunities presented themselves with more clarity than the relief market. That’s the direction we chose.”

The Braves have stuuuupid SP prospect depth. Aside from their solid MLB rotation, they have another rotation's worth of Top 100 prospects, and then damn near another two rotations' worth of SP prospects arguably better than any of ours aside from Canning.

Two relievers to ATL should net at least one of them.

I'll take Bryse Wilson. Close to MLB ready but is really overshadowed by the gluttony of arms the Braves have

Deadline is 10 days away. #Athletics four games out in WC race. If they fall back, they could flip Familia, adopting same strategy #Twins took last season, pivoting from buyers to sellers. #Twins acquired Jaime Garcia on 7/24, then traded him on 7/29 and Brandon Kintzler on 7/31.

Source: #Mets are getting 2 prospects Wahl and Toffey and international slot money for Familia

It's the Mets. They're channeling the old Washington Generals (the team that always played the Harlem globetrotter).
