because Myers sent the next pitch, an 87 mph meatball, over the right-center field porch. The blast was the deciding run in San Diego’s 4-3 win.

Mathis can throw 87 mph according to the article, its no wonder he's now one of the best at throwing out runners including Trout this year ! With experience it seems Mathis is now a reliable guy to throw out runners with an average of 35% per year with a career 42% last year, he's been above the league average in CS% since 2012. When playing against teams with alot of Speed, Mathis is worth starting at Catcher being that he will get the chance to shut down a teams running game & if he throws out 2 runners in a game that more than makes up for his bat which is better than Calhoun at least. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mathije01.shtml

The problem with Mathis before was he overthrew it & it went into CF, he's now got the timing down so well that he can just launch a cannon of a throw to 2B without throwing it away. If he keeps it up he could play til he's 40 as a specialist catcher to use against teams with alot of speed.
