 And why would you take out Bedrosian after facing only one batter only to put this guy in.

Again, why are you confused?  Why try to figure it out or question it?  What is the point?  I learned years ago to stop trying to figure out the moves Scioscia does or doesn't make.  It's made watching Angels games much better.

Nagy and Scioscia track much more than the pitch count and their moves are never decided in a vacuum. Everything is connected. None of these emergency starters are off a short leash.
