How long do you think the Angels have?

15 blown saves for the Angels

14 blown saves for the Mariners

That being said I trust their arms more than ours.

Save percentage matter, yes they have almost the same number of blown saves we do, but they have also had more opportunities.

SEA is 14 of 42, almost 67%, whereas we are 15 of 35, 57%.  Sea has actually dropped back in that regard it seems as their percentage was in the 70s at last check.

The Angels are 6 games behind the Mariners. They play 6 times before the ASB. Assuming they play roughly equal otherwise, those 6 games could really set the stage for post-ASB. That's a potential swing of 0 to 12 games back, although more likely in the 4-8 range. But even 4 and 8 is a pretty big swing.

Either way, I think we go to the trade deadline unclear as to whether to buy or sell.

Trade deadline will give us a good enough indicator as to what is really what (since we play the Dipotos a bunch in July), 9 with them, 6 with the Dogs, 3 with Boston and 3 with Houston.

If we really suck, we’ll know for sure by the deadline.

How about we sweep those guys and start printing up playoff t-shirts?

This team under Scioscia isn't getting anywhere near the playoffs.  It would take a few teams to completely collapse for the Angels to make the playoffs this year.  Thank God Arte has not extended Scioscia's contract (yet).  I have never seen a more dismal bullpen and lack of leadership that there is with this team under Scioscia.  This team needs new leadership and direction badly as they are wasting Trout's first half of his career.

If you still think they have a chance to be in the playoffs this year, realistically when do you think our chances evaporate? What changes need to be made? Do you think Seattle is legitimate?

Well most likely being swept by Boston this week gets us .500 while Seattle is going to beat up on Baltimore . We should be 9.5 games out by Friday ?

hopefully sweep Baltimore which should get us to probably 7-8 games out

then a big series in Seattle should tell us a lot

well, the Halos are fairly quickly reaching an all too familiar place as we approach trade deadline time.

Are we Buyers or Sellers?

If we are Buyers - seriously, if we can even be considered Buyers at this point - we're buying to nab the second Wild Card spot at this point.

So - the same question as before -- is it worth it to nab a second wild card spot with the horses that we have now. Realistically, how far will we get? One and done?

so over-pay for a rental, give up whatever prospects we have worth anything (and the Farm is better stocked than it has been in recent years -- that's not a very high bar BTW) and wind up one and done watching the playoffs from the couch and hurting our chances for 2019.

Or- do we throw in the towel for 2018 - admit we're Sellers -- trade off what we can (Calhoun, Kinsler, Valbluena, perhaps Richards, Blake Parker? - who would want Bedrosian?) Keep the nucleus - Trout, Simmons, Ohtani, Maldonado , Upton and we're keeping Pujols -- face it - just move him down the line up.

I think we're Sellers -- the  past two weeks and today's loss to KC hasn't helped.

If we had a better rotation - the kind that could be real tough in a short series -- with a bonafde shut em down closer -- I'd say, well second wild card spot? Maybe - just get us into the playoffs.

but that's not the rotation or roster that we have.  We're just a weak playoff team that didn't belong in the playoffs before the second wild card format came along.

If we are buyers one of two things are pretty much guaranteed.  If we get rentals, they will cost us no one we have heard of or the rental is someone that is very likely to resign with the club, think Upton type of dude.  Secondly and more probable in my eyes is we acquire someone that is here for the long run.  Whether it is a permanent solution for 3rd base or a permanent solution for closer.  Someone like Moustakas or Hand.  It is a way of buying for now, but not mortgaging the future because these players would be part of the future.
