If Trout was walked every time

Recommended Posts

So let's say that teams didn't throw Trout a strike the whole rest of the season.  In other words, his obp would be 1.000 and his slg would be 0.00.

If the Angels kept their current pace, they would score about 4.923 runs per game with their current lineup (or so).

If the other team walked Trout 100% of the time, the team would score 5.127 runs per game.

If the other team walked Trout 89.5% of the time and got him out the rest then the halos would score 4.923 runs per game.

what would your strategy be as an opposing manager?

I have no idea how you figured that out, Doc. Maybe you're just making shit up, but either way well done.

Anyhow, I remember that question being asked during the Bondzilla era (2001-04). I think the answer was the same: as good as Bonds was, it didn't make sense to walk him every time.

But most of the time? Maybe. Remember when the Angels walked Bonds with the bases loaded in the World Series? Yeah, that doesn't happen much. I would suspect someting similar of Trout now. I wouldn't walk him with the bases loaded necessarily, but with two men on base...yeah, maybe.
