Nats trade for Herrera

Per Heyman, for a couple minor leaguers, not top guys but good one.

This is what playoff teams do.  This is why its not too early.   This is why we havent been making the playoffs.

The Nats are far and above what we are now. Herrera would be a bandaid to maybe getting to a WC at most

i dont know what hes doing.  But doing nothing simply because we may not be as good as another team is silly to me.

If Stoneman still keeps his office at Angel Stadium.  And I have no reason to think he doesnt.  My guess is that he shows up in the morning and then goes to sleep.

Angel's need three BP arms - 7th inning, set-up man, and closer - and it's going to take a lot of prospect currency to get them.

The sad truth is Herrera would be just the START of making this team ready for the playoffs. If we had acquired him we would be just a wild card team and Herrera I believe would be just a rental. Would we have enough firepower to beat the Yanks, Sox, Astros? Probably not.

Guitierrez and Perkins are both top 20 prospects in the Nationals system. I do not know where they would be ranked if in our system or who their equivalents are.

See I don’t see it as that dire. I think Anderson and Parker both suitable for 7th and 8th inning roles.  Alvarez is also solid.

Eppler has to shed salary before he can add salary. He’s kinda screwed. Arte’s not going to spend more on this club.

Trade for Hand and sign Herrera as a FA?   Then the other younger Halos relievers slot in much better.

I think he is.  Padres have been dangling him supposedly since last year.  They aren’t giving him away tho. 

A deal could get done.  Costly, but probably worth it.  I don’t think it’s going to cost a top 5 guy.  Probably a top 10 guy and a couple of top 20.

We would prbly have to give up jam Jones + 2 mid/low level for someone with 2.5 years control
