The Diamondbacks are coming

The thing that bothered me about Maths was his complete inability to control the running game. He had a good arm, but pitchers were not holding runners and even when they did, Mathis never put the ball on the bag.

Compound that with throwing to first on a stolen base, our need for offense while Napoli sat, the fact that he was supposed to be as good as Mauer, add it all up and you have yourself a disappointment.

The thing that bothered me about Mathis was his complete suckage.

And thirteen seasons later, no one working in MLB front offices has realized it.

But you have, eh?

If one accepts the importance of pitching in the game, then it follows that purely pitching-related stats like CERA and pitch framing are important, too.

Apparently more important than many other catching skills, according to front offices. Otherwise, Mathis wouldn't be visiting Anaheim in an MLB uniform.

Besides, the continuing decline in the number of stolen bases even attempted has helped him through his one glaring fielding deficiency.

He's changed though, he now can throw runners out very well. He has a 50% CS this year, 42% last year, years before that: 31%, 33%, 33%, 41% with all of those numbers being above the league average for CS%.

Maybe the DBacks will get Napoli'd by Upton and Young in this series.

Seems like every team Upton goes to one of his friends or his brother Melvin/BJ is on the same team. Melvin followed him to San Diego & Atlanta for example & then Kinsler followed him to the Angels along with being reunited with Chris Young.
