OC Register: No change in Shohei Ohtani’s status with Angels; no plan for surgery at this point

Recommended Posts

There has been no change in Shohei Ohtani’s diagnosis or treatment plan since the Angels announced on Friday that he has a grade 2 sprain of his unlar collateral ligament, general manager Billy Eppler said Monday.

Despite a media report that Ohtani was “probably” headed for Tommy John surgery, Eppler said the situation remains the same. Eppler said Friday he is “hopeful” that Ohtani can avoid surgery. He will be re-evaluated in three weeks.

Historically, many pitchers with grade 2 sprains end up having Tommy John surgery, even those who have platelet-rich plasma or stem-cell injections, as Ohtani did.
