How long will it take

How long until the bullpen begins to build some trust again? Not trying to be an apologist, nor being sarcastic.  It's early June, but here's the bullpen numbers for the month:

Parker – 6IP, 1ER, 2H, 2BB, 7K

Bedrosian – 3IP, 0ER, 3H, 0BB, 2K

Johnson – 3IP, 0ER, 3H, 1BB, 4K

Alvarez – 4.2IP, 1ER 3H, 1BB, 4K

Ramirez – 3.1IP, 2ER, 2H, 0BB, 4K

Anderson – 3.2IP, 2ER, 3H, 6BB, 5K

That works out to a 2.28 ERA, 9.9 K/9IP, 1.10 WHIP over 23-2/3 innings.  Not 'lights out, shut'em down' numbers, but certainly MORE than respectable.

And yet, because of the horrendous outings and blown leads we've seen this year, we all collectively clench when the bullpen comes in to protect a 1- or 2-run lead.  How long do you think before we start to feel, if not confidence, at least not a sense of impending doom?

Thanks for helping ground us. Early offense made me forget what it was like to be in close games. Bullpens are never perfect. Of late, I'd actually give a ton of credit to Sosh based on what he's had to work with.

There isn't a damn things Bedrosian can do to earn my confidence.

I am beginning to regain confidence in Parker

I have confidence in Ramirez

Anderson is a

Rookie.  I expect him to have his bumps in the road.

I'll go on record and say I think there's a place for Bedrosian in our bullpen. But it is NOT in the 9th, or even the 8th inning. Call it what you will; grit, makeup, WHATEVER - he can (and does) pitch really well when the game is not on the line. Slot him in the 6th, MAYBE the 7th, and in a mop-up when we're being blown out. This is where he excels. 3 years of trying to make him the 'closer of the future' has failed.

I think we should continue to be diligent during this "feast" time and get an established closer. I don't think this will last.

That's the thing. This won't last. But the other thing is that the pen being as bad as it was won't last either. It's a middle of the road pen. It happens. And in small samples great relievers can look bad and bad relievers can look good. Risking a lot of assets for a closer is a very high risk strategy.

Parker since end of April:

18.2 innings, sub 1.00 ERA

Plus, he seems to be comfortable closing, for now.

Can he get it done for another month, until key relievers start coming down in prospects price?

If only Anderson could eventually harness his command and look more often like he did yesterday.  The stuff is certainly there.

a lot longer and here's why.

The 'with the lead' 7th, 8th and 9th inning trio of Alvarez, Anderson and Parker is fine, but two of those three should be guys you bring in when the score is 4-3 in the 5th but you know your starter is done.  Yet with the current available for those situations, you let Trop stay in to add one more base runner.

Then you get your 'tied or down by 1 or 2 runs' crew which is Bedrosian, Johnson, and Noe.  Which means you get 7-3 going into the 8th/9th instead of maybe 5-3.  Then you get Oliver Drake and Eduardo Paredes for those innings and those guys had to absolutely tap dance to keep the score as is.

I'd be ok with Parker in the 7th or 8th.  But Paredes and Drake shouldn't be in the majors.  Bedrosian and Johnson should be in mop up duty and not when the game is within 3 runs in either direction.  Losing Key was tough.  It put us at needing two guys and perhaps a 3rd from needing 1.

The pen is not awesome but it does not suck either. An elite closer would be good. But I would not give up any stud prospects for one..... ask me in a week from now if the Angels blow some 9th innings leads.....

I do not think Eppler will mortgage the farm for one. But who knows?

12 games vs. Seattle before the deadline. 3 this week. That will make or break our season.

It's strange. The numbers look Ok, but I don't have the confidence. Bedrosian and Ramirez are 4 of 10. Johnson and Anderson may be 5s. Parker and Alvarez are 6s. We have no 8s.

Parker is looking very good right now.  I have always liked Alvarez, Anderson, and Ramirez.  Johnson is capable of pitching well, so I'm not giving up on him.  I have no faith in Cam Bedrosian or Oliver Drake.  I think Eduardo Paredes has potential to be a good middle reliever.

Our bullpen is fine for now, but we still need to trade for a dominant closer at the deadline.

I was only critiquing the 6 in the original thread. Paredes, Drake, Robles, Morris et al are just crap.
