And, not many teams have a starter who was a below average hitter in the minors. It is usually a direct correlation that when you do not hit well in the minors, that you will not hit well in the majors.

You have a right to your opinion, but a .370 OBP is not "below average". In fact it's the opposite. 

Batting average is not the end all be all. He's not going to tear the world apart but surely he can be better than the absolute garbage they've gotten from Calhoun and Young.

Scioscia getting another arm warm in case Alvarez falters. I've heard lots of complaints about how the bullpen wasn't ready and someone got left in so long, so I assume this would be widely acknowledged as a good thing. Fortunately Alvarez had a nice inning and Bedrosian wasn't needed.
