My understanding is that you trigger an option for the year, and you can shuttle them back and forth as much as you want and still only use one option.

 

So, the option refers to an option year, not to an individual trip up/down.

Options arent limited to a select number of times.... They are limited by years and service time....

100% correct.  Players have 3 option years once promoted to the 40 man roster.  A player may be optioned back and forth as many times as the team desires during a year, and it just counts as one option.
